Karen Ng Yueh Ying graduated in law from the University of Malaya in 2006. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in May 2007 and joined Azman Davidson & Co. in the same year. She was made a partner in Azman Davidson & Co. in 2015. She left Azman Davidson & Co. in July 2021 and founded Yatiswara, Ng & Chan with Yatis Ramachandran and Kenny Chan in August 2021.
Karen’s areas of work to date include advisory work, adjudication, arbitration and litigation in the fields of Construction Law, Oil and Gas law, Administrative Law, Contract Law, Company Law and Banking Law.
Her primary focus is Construction Law. She has vast experience in drafting and reviewing construction contracts for use in housing and mixed development projects, manufacturing plant projects and oil and gas projects (onshore and offshore). Her contract drafting experience includes drafting consultancy agreements, joint venture agreements, cost sharing agreements, strategic collaboration agreements, engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contracts, turnkey and design and build contracts, operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements and contracts for architectural and engineering works, including contracts based on the standard form contracts issued by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), the Public Works Department ( Jabatan Kerja Raya or JKR) and Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs - Conseils (FIDIC).
She has been a member of the Master Builders Association Malaysia’s Contracts and Practices Committee since 2014. In this capacity, she has delivered talks and facilitated workshops as well as webinars for the Master Builders Association Malaysia on the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA) and other topics concerning the construction industry.
She is a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Accredited Evaluative Mediator and an empanelled Mediator on the Asian International Arbitration Centre Panel of Mediators. She also obtained her Certificate in Adjudication with the Asian International Arbitration Centre in 2021.

Reviewed and drafted oil and gas service contracts, including a farm-in contract involving a block in Sabah, drilling rig contract, FPSO contract and EPCIC contract and joint venture agreements.

Drafted and provided advice on various consultancy agreements, including an architectural consultancy services agreement, quantity surveying consultancy services agreement, M&E, C&S consultancy services agreement and project management consultancy services agreement, for a client’s new headquarters campus project.
